Last week i was asked to be involved in a photoshoot for a magazine called Disorder. They are covering Graduate Fashion Week and wanted a few pics for a magazine spread and cover. I and a few other girls had some photos taken yesterday. I haven’t got the photos from the shoot through yet, but here are a few pre-shoot shots to give you an idea. I will have the proper pics by the end of the week so please check back

My lovely model, Greg, was such a pro and posed for a good hour or so. I think I should buy him a medal.
We’re not sure what will be in the magazine, if anything as they may decide no pics are good enough, but either way I am still excited about getting some photos for my portfolio.

The show went amazingly, by the way. A few bits of Lion fell off, which was a bit embarrassing, but I don’t think anybody noticed and hey this was my first time making an outfit like that. I am VERY pleased and proud of myself and got a bit teary when I watched the show as my outfits looked even better once all the make up was applied and everyone was in character. I am still waiting on the photos, but I will put them up as soon as they arrive.
A review..

Well I’m currently sat in the textiles studio at uni scoffing a sarnie (from the canteen and it is revolting). It’s lunchtime and I am mid printing some rather complicated stripes. You’d think they’d be easy but noooo. I think it’s mainly because I have about 7 colourways in it so it’s taking forever and the colours overlap so it’s taking a lot of alligning.
So anyway, I’m mid final collection now. I’ve named it “The Beautiful People” after the Marilyn Manson song. The theme is quite mixed and I’ve taken inspiration from goth rock, Victorian dandyism and Tim Burton movies. It’s creepy in mainly greys and blood reds, but then I’ve added this print I’m doing today which is in bright, almost neon colours. I’ll be dulling them down with grey dye as I’m going for that “was once fabulous, but now is old and dull” look.
I will put up my designs as soon as I’ve scanned them and also keep you up to date with the very long process of making these bad boys…

As I mentioned before I’m currently working with Masquerade Theatre Company here in Reading. They are doing a production of The Wizard of Oz which will be onstage at The Hexagon at the end of this month. Tix are available here
Anyway, I’m doing a lot of the costumes, mainly all the principle characters apart from Tin Man as I wouldn’t even know where to start with that! Here is what I’ve been up to so far Read the rest of this entry »

FINALLY! SHE’S DONE SOMETHING WITH HER WEBSITE!!!
*sounds the trumpets*
Righty, well I currently have no time at all to work on a full website, but I have a LOT of things going on which I would like to share so thought I’d start this lil old blog. I’m still studying Fashion & Textiles BA at Thames Valley University, almost finished though, I graduate in May. I am working with an amateur theatre company and trying to worm my way into the costume side of things rather than the fashion industry.
So, firstly I’d like to know if everyone likes my new logo, hmm? My old dready girl thought it was time for her to move on to pastures new since I’m no longer doing that anymore (although I do have some rather cool real dreads of my own nowadays), so I’ve replaced her with my tattoo instead. It seems fitting anyway.
I’ll blog again later with some images of my current projects.
Bear with me while I fiddle with the layout of this page.
Gem xx
